Q: How do you describe CSR – the new fad or wave?
Stalin K: CSR currently is more Corporate Sin Reduction than Corporate Social Responsibility. Its not a fad, it’s a compulsion. Which is alright because this is not the first right or necessary thing that is initiated as a compulsion. The good thing is that the corporations are now expected to be socially responsible as against their blasé irresponsible behavior. The driving force and reason behind CSR activities is largely profit and branding (to increase profit), when corporations start to see the social responsibilities as what it is and not tied to any profit motive, we will have true CSR. Until then it will be Corporate Sin Reduction.
